Obituary

Peggy Jean (Hill) Hyneman, 90, of Mt. Olympus, Indiana passed away surrounded by her family on July 4, 2023 at home. She was born in Union, Indiana on February 13, 1933.

Peggy attended Union school and graduated from Mt. Olympus High School in 1951. She married William (Wib) Hyneman on July 28, 1951. They were blessed with 52 years of marriage and five children.

She graduated from Vincennes University in 1986 with a degree in Licensed Practical Nursing and retired from Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, Indiana in 1997.

Peggy was a member and trustee of Mt. Olive United Methodist Church and past trustee of Mt. Olive Cemetery in Mt. Olympus. She taught The Crusader Class for several years. She was a volunteer with the Ladies Auxiliary at Gibson General Hospital since 2004. She was also a member of the Gibson Girls Red Hat Society.

She enjoyed traveling and visited 41 states including two trips to Hawaii. She spent several winters in Florida. There are many things that Peggy was known for, but she was best known for her servant's heart and strong presence in the time of other’s needs. She was very giving of her time, homecooked meals, and support to family, friends and neighbors.

Peggy is preceded in death by her husband William, her mother and stepfather Flossie (Hill) and Darold Tisor as well as special cousins Mary Helen Sullivan and Vesper Hill, whom she considered siblings.

She is survived by her children: Cindy Beard, Bert (Ann) Hyneman, Bret (Judy) Hyneman, Cathy (Keith) Fields and Susan (Ivan) Baker. Also surviving are grandchildren: Jarrod (Leslie) Beard, Natalie (Jason) Marsh, Brent (Kelly) Baker, Andrea (Matt) Turner, Brittany (Joe) Davidson, Nate Fields, Clint Hyneman, Kayla (Shane) Hayes, Tanner (Jannah) Fields, Samantha (Tyler) Mays and 17 great-grandchildren. Included in her survivors are a special cousin whom she considered her brother, Jim Bob Hill; stepsister Elaine Munton; and extended family members Nancy Hope, Kelly Hope and Nikki Thorbecke, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00am CST on Saturday, July 8, 2023 at O.D. Harris Funeral Home in Petersburg, Indiana with John Davidson officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olive Cemetery in Mt. Olympus, Indiana. Visitation hours will be held from 4:00-8:00pm CST on Friday, July 7, 2023 at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial offerings be given to Union Cemetery. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.  Donations may also be made out to Union Cemetery and mailed to: Kevin Easton at 116 East Clark Street, Princeton IN 47670.
