Maxine M. (Selby) Aikman, 79 of Petersburg, passed away on January 19, 2021 at her home.
She was born May 9, 1941 in Petersburg to Howard A. and Inez (Chanley) Selby. She was one of nine children.
She graduated from Petersburg High School in 1959. She attended Beautician College in Evansville, IN and was licensed as a beautician in 1960.
She married Joe Dan Aikman on June 19, 1961. She is survived by three children, Darla (Aikman) Traylor, Carol (Tom) Jolly of Fishers, David (Michele) Aikman of Palatine, IL; seven grandchildren: Amy (Josh) Marotti of Montclair, NJ, Cody Traylor, Luke and Alexis Jolly of Fishers, and Callee, Connor and Sydney Aikman of Palatine, IL; three sisters: Patty (Gary) Horrall of Petersburg; Marilyn (Jim) Gryder of Angola; Sandy (Brent) Lovell of Petersburg; sister-in-laws Roberta (Dr. Ralph) Jacqmain of Vincennes and Carolyn Selby of Owensboro, KY; brother-in-laws Dick Asbell of Greencastle and Jim Cox of Petersburg; and numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
Maxine lived her entire life in Petersburg. Enjoying time with family and friends was the center of her life, as a sister, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed hosting family and friends for cookouts, games, gardening, and swimming parties through the years. Her wit and humour always enlivened any conversation and kept laughter alive leaving everyone feeling warm and welcome.
In addition to having Maxine's Beauty Salon in her home, she worked at the family business Aikman Heating & Plumbing Sales and Service until its closure in 2008. Through the years she was a member of Beta Sigma Phi and served as President, women's & couples bowling leagues, along with traveling and anything Elvis!! She was a member of First Christian Church, Petersburg.

A private family viewing will be held on Saturday, January 23, with graveside service at 11:00am ET at Walnut Hills Cemetery, Petersburg.
