Keith Roy Obituary

Phillip “Keith” Roy, 80 of Petersburg, IN, formerly of Spurgeon, passed away at the Amber Manor Care Center in Petersburg on January 29th, 2022. Keith was born on March 15th, 1941 to Prentice Woodrow and Grace Evelyn (Harkness) Roy in Oakland City, IN.

 

Surviving Keith is his wife of 60 years, Juanita Mae (Barrett) Roy. They were married on January 27th, 1962. Keith also leaves behind one sister, Cynthia Kay Feaster (Grant) of Ft. Branch, IN. Surviving children include one daughter, Deena Doerner (Nick) of Petersburg, and 3 sons; Kevin of Spurgeon, Chad of Winslow, and Jason (Rachel) of Huntingburg. 

 

Surviving grandchildren include: Megan (Jeremy) Glenn, of Spring Branch, TX, Jordan (Lindsey) Roy of Indianapolis, Haley (Austin) Doersom of Jasper, Owen and Penelope Roy of Huntingburg, and Chloe and Cameron Roy of Winslow. Surviving great-grandchildren include: Lilyan and Brystol Glenn, and Parker Doersom. Keith is preceded in death by his parents, and one granddaughter, Lauren Roy.

 

Keith formerly was employed as a draftsman for John Deere of Dubuque, IA, AMF Toy Division of Olney, IL, Babcock and Wilcox of Mt. Vernon, IN. He retired from Old Ben Coal Company after 25 years of service, before operating his own company, Roy’s Disposal, from 1992-2007. 

 

Keith was a member of the Spurgeon United Methodist Church for most of his life, where he was an active member in the United Methodist Men’s Group. Keith enjoyed attending classic car shows, antique tractor shows, and spending time with his family, especially his buddy Cameron. 

 

The family would like to extend their appreciation to the employees of Amber Manor and Hospice Care, for their tender care of Keith over the last few months of his life. 

 

Services for Keith will take place at 12 PM EST on Friday, February 4, at the Spurgeon United Methodist Church in Spurgeon with visitation from 11 AM until service time. Pastor Josh Sanders will be officiating and burial will follow at the Spurgeon Cemetery.

 

Those wanting to memorialize Keith’s life are asked to donate to the Spurgeon United Methodist Church or to the Spurgeon Cemetery. Harris Funeral Home of Petersburg is entrusted with care
