John "Joe" W. Carter, Jr.

John “Joe” Wesley Carter, Jr., 93, of Petersburg, Indiana, was surrounded by his family as he entered Heaven on September 14, 2023. He was born in Franklin, Kentucky on October 27, 1929, to John and Dora Carter. 

Joe married Martha “Lane” on February 21, 1948. They faithfully served together in ministry for over 45 years. They were blessed with two children: Gary (preceded in death) and Sandra (Carter) Phillips.

Joe was a foreman for the pipeline before he retired and founded the Voice of Believers Ministry church. Joe was known for his genuine spirit and kindness to each person he encountered. He enjoyed gardening, chopping wood, spending time with family and sharing the love of Jesus.

Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter Sandra (Carter) Phillips; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and the hundreds of lives he touched.

A Celebration of Joe’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 18, 2023, at Jesus Christ Our Firm Foundation church (formerly Voice of Believers Ministry) at 1415 N. Vincennes Ave, Petersburg, Indiana. Burial will follow at Walnut Hills Cemetery with Pastor Denny Wiscaver officiating. The family will greet friends at the church from 10:00 a.m. until service time.
