Jerrell "Jerry" Grubb Obituary

Jerry Grubb – Petersburg, IN – The man. The myth. The legend.  Jerry was born on September 27, 1958 and passed away on July 20, 2021.  He loved boating at Kentucky Lake, playing blackjack, winning at blackjack, cooking up some Grubb Spuds and his famous BBQ chicken, and keeping his yard pristine.  He enjoyed vacationing with his family and loved a good mango squirrel while watching the waves roll in.  Jerry was the type of guy that would invite 500 of his closest friends over for a firework show and treat them to a big jug of his famous Swamp Juice.

Jerry dedicated his career to IP&L for 43 years where he was a welder and IBEW union steward, and most recently a Maintenance Supervisor.  He enjoyed feeding his crew with a breakfast of homemade pancakes and all the fixings as often as he could.  Throughout his career he made some wonderful friends who were as dear to him as his family members.

Jerry was involved in the community as a member of Pike Masonic Lodge 121, a previous member of the Petersburg Jaycee’s, a Pike Central Band Booster for 12 years, a volunteer bus driver for the band, and a Pike County School Board member for 16 years.

Jerry loved his surviving wife of 42 years, Kathie Grubb (Barnett), his two surviving daughters Melissa Dale (Steve Dale), Jenny Patrick (Chaze Patrick), and his late son J.R. Grubb.  Jerry also lovingly left behind his mother Alene Grubb, two sisters Linda Miley (Rick Miley) and Donna Arnold (Doug Arnold), and his nieces and nephews Stephanie Johnson (Brent, Evan and Sarah Johnson), and Dustin Arnold (Amanda and Calvin Arnold).  Jerry was preceded in death by his father, Jerrell R. Grubb.

Marshall Matt Dillon; Moe, Larry and Curly; and John Belushi were his TV heroes, but Jerry “Pops” was the Ultimate Hero to his grandchildren – Andrew Johnson, Cassius Patrick, A.J. Dale, Caroline Dale, Katie Dale, and Gavin Patrick.  Pops delighted in spoiling his grandkids, buying them gifts and treats, taking them on boat rides at Kentucky Lake, building sandcastles with his specialized tools at Daytona Beach, teasing them with special nicknames and jokes, and making sure to sneak each and every one of them a dum-dum sucker prior to their first birthday.

If you were fortunate enough to know Jerry during his time on earth, you’d know that he was hard-working, strong-willed, and stubborn as Sister Sara’s mules. His intelligence, wit and humor were unparalleled, and he loved those closest to him fiercely and protected and cared for them with all he had.  He wasn’t just a myth or a legend.  He was a magnificent and outstanding man that will live in our jokes, our stories, and our hearts forever.

Services will be held at Harris Funeral Home on July 26, 2021 with visitation from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. With a Masonic service beginning at 1:00 p.m. followed by a Funeral service at 2:00 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to Somebody’s Place or the Pike Central Band Boosters in Jerry’s memory.
