James L. King, 90, of Petersburg, passed away March 18, 2024 in Petersburg. He was born May 29, 1933 to Henry Harrison and Margaret (Abbott) King in Bowman, IN. After graduating High School Jim proudly served in the United States Army. Jim married his wife, Inez (Russell) King on November 14, 1958. He drove a gas truck for the Farm Bureau Co-op in Petersburg for many years. Jim served as the Clay Township Trustee for 41 years. He was a faithful member of the Ayrshire Valley General Baptist Church in Ayrshire, IN. He was also a very proud member of the Republican Party. His favorite hobbies included fishing and boating with his family and friends.
Jim is survived by his wife of 65 years, Inez (Russell) King; daughters, Judy Elber, Cindy (Scott) Poole, and Terri (Don) Merle; grandchildren, Mallory (Stephen) Leger, Hannah Elber, Sarah (Ben) Kessler, Samuel Gibbs, Jennifer (John) Dumas, Eric Merle, and Tyler Merle; great grandchildren, Layne Kessler, Hunter Daughtry, Tyler Daughtry, Parker Dumas, Oryn Merle, and Edryn Merle; his sister, Joy Willis; and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry Harrison and Margaret (Abbott) King; grandson, Caleb Elber; sister, Evelyn Sampson; and his brothers, Jack King and Larry King.
Services for Jim will take place at 1 PM EST on Friday, March 22, at Harris Funeral Home in Petersburg with visitation from 11 AM EST until service time. Pastor Frank Coleman will be officiating and burial will follow at Cup Creek Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please make donations out to Ayrshire Valley General Baptist Church and mail to 1947 E. Co.
