Gary Williams Obituary

Gary H. Williams, 75, of Alford, IN, passed away at home on January 15th, 2021.  He was born in Vincennes, IN, October 1st, 1945, to Herschel and Catherine (Dixon) Williams.  He graduated from Monroe City High School in 1963 and married Mary “Kate” Risley. They were married for 57 years.

Known for working hard, Gary took on a variety of tough jobs throughout his life. Starting at Vincennes Steel in 1965, he enjoyed many careers over time, such as coal mining, co-owning a tire store, farming many years, co-owning a seed conditioning plant, owning a trucking company, and over the road truck driving. In 2013 Gary began to enjoy retirement and spent the majority of his time with friends and family. He attended Alford United Methodist Church and enjoyed gathering almost daily with friends. Gary’s greatest joy in life was his family, including his dog Max.

He is survived by his wife, Kate, his children, Chet (Angie) Williams, Richard (Tammy) Williams, Gene (Lori) Williams, Jennifer (Lucas) Kluemper, his mother, Catherine Williams, and sisters Linda (Bill) Drotoz and Vickie (Rex) Chattin. He is also survived by grandchildren Emma, Kyle, Chloe, Hunter, Danielle, Madeline, Kristie, and Kaitlyn Williams and also Colton Newton. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his son Roger and his father, Rev. Herschel Williams.

 Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 20, 2021, at Alford United Methodist Church, in Alford, IN, from 10am to 1pm, and graveside services will be held at Reels Chapel Cemetery immediately following with Rev. Jarrod Chattin officiating. Due to COVID 19 protocols, masks and social distancing are required throughout services and no more than 25 people within the church at one time.

In lieu of flowers & gifts, please make a donation to your choice of Alford United Methodist Church, Reels Chapel Cemetery, the American Heart Association, or the Alzheimer’s Association. Thank you to everyone who has offered their sympathies, help, and who has provided wonderful food for the family in this time of grief.
