Charlotte Natalie (Deal) Smith

Charlotte Natalie Smith, 94, of Petersburg, passed away April 4, 2022 in Vincennes, IN. She was born July 18, 1927 to Charles and Mollie Deal in Petersburg, IN. She graduated from Bicknell High School in 1945. She worked as a secretary at Pike Central High School for over 20 years. Charlotte was a long time member of the First Baptist Church in Petersburg. She played the organ and piano since childhood and played for the church as well as many weddings and services. She also volunteered at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes for over 20 years.

Charlotte is survived by her daughter, Jan Nowling of Bloomington, IN; grandsons, Seth M. Nowling and Colin D. (Lisa) Nowling; great granddaughter, Rachel Nowling; brother, William (Linda) Deal of Indianapolis; sister, Shirley (Ray) Daywalt of Evansville; and many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews; step daughter, Claudia; step grandchildren, Jose and Gabriel Soto and Anita Lopez.

She is preceded in death by her first husband, Herbert W. Pfrang; her second husband, James Smith; parents, Charles N. and Mollie (George) Deal; son, Michael Pfrang; son-in-law, Steve Nowling; brother, George Deal; and sister, Jean Frederick.

Services for Charlotte will take place at 3 PM EST on Thursday, April 7, 2022, at the First Baptist Church in Petersburg with visitation from 1 PM EST until service time. Pastor Mike Miller will be officiating and burial will follow at Memorial Cemetery in Bicknell, IN. The family asks that in lieu of flowers that donations please be made to the First Baptist Church of Petersburg and may be mailed to PO Box 43 Petersburg, IN 47567. Harris Funeral Home has been entrusted with care.
