Betty L. Chesser

Betty Lou (Olds) Chesser of Petersburg went home to be with her Lord and Savior on December 6, 2020. She was 89 years old.

Betty was born on January 15, 1931 in Gibson County to Doris and Marjorie Olds. She was married to Robert (Bob) Lee Chesser of Winslow on July 24, 1948. Bob went to be with the Lord in September 2016. Betty is also preceded in death by her sister, Katherine, and her brother, John.

She is survived by one sister, Shirley Ferrell, of Indianapolis, and five children: David Chesser of Hillsboro, Illinois; Pamela Jerrell of Petersburg, Indiana; Myra Hack of Greenwood, Indiana; Dedra Like of Rockport, Indiana; and Ruthann Hildebrand of Greenwood, Indiana; as well as her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were her pride and joy.

Betty was known for her fierce love and affection for her family, her kindness to friends and acquaintances, her exemplary work ethic, and her devotion to God. She worked as a supervisor at Gossard’s Ladies Apparel factory in Huntingburg and as a dietician at the nursing home now known as Golden Living Center in Petersburg. For the majority of her adult life, she attended Gospel Center in Petersburg, teaching ladies Bible studies, Sunday school, and Vacation Bible Study for decades. She loved hosting family get-togethers, cooking for her grandchildren, and camping with her husband during their retirement. Her infectious laugh, warm smile, and faithful spirit will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Graveside services will be held at 1 PM EST on Friday, December 11, at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery. Due to Covid 19 masks and social distancing are required. Harris Funeral Home is entrusted with care.

The family would also like to extend their deepest appreciation to all the staff at Golden Living Center, who gave Betty such thoughtful and attentive care during her time there, and especially during these challenging times.
