Terrance Farmer

 Terrance Warren “Terry” Farmer passed away unexpectedly on August 5, 2026, at Deaconess Memorial Hospital in Jasper, Indiana. He was born January 29, 1949 in Morgan County, Indiana to the late Wallace W. and Sarah E. (Deck) Farmer. Terry grew up in and around Monroe and Morgan County, Indiana, attending First Christian Church of Paragon with his family including his three siblings.Terry would also attend Martinsville High School. After spending his formative years surrounded by generations of family traditions steeped in faith and a love for working the land, Terry developed a life-long passion for farming.

  As a teenager, Terry moved with his family to Petersburg, Indiana where he would graduate from Petersburg High School in 1967. He later attended Purdue University, graduating in 1972. He would remain a proud alumnae and supporter of the Boilermakers for the remainder of his life. On June 5, 1976 Terry attended his sister Teresa’s wedding where he would meet Catherine “Cathy” Jo (Etter) Farmer of Elkhart, Indiana. The two immediately fell in love, marrying barely one year later on July 9, 1977. Terry and Cathy shared a love for rural Indiana and family ties led them to settle permanently in Petersburg, where Cathy was hired as a teacher. Terry would join his father working their small family farm, eventually also taking a position at Indianapolis Power and Light where he would retire after working more than 25 years. Terry and Cathy would raise three children with faith, patience, love, and support.

 Terry was a humble and respected member of the Petersburg community supporting many local causes including various youth programs and Pike Central High School sports. He was an active member of White River Chapel where he served as Treasurer. He loved the fellowship of Sunday morning service. Terry was a devoted husband and father. He most enjoyed any and all activities that brought him close to his wife and family. He loved the outdoors, his garden andcamping with his wife, children and grandchildren. Terry was an old soul. He worked hard to honor and preserve family memories and traditions. Favorites included family cookouts at McCormick’s Creek State Park, caring for and using his father’s and grandfather’s tools, and making his mother’s buttermilk biscuits, apple pies, and strawberry preserves. His faith was important to him. He believed in hard work, showing up, and being true to your word. When Cathy became ill with dementia, Terry dutifully cared for her. As her disease progressed, he stood by her side doing all he could to attend to her needs and ensure her comfort. He would say even on the hardest days “I wouldn’t miss spending a day with the most beautiful girl in the room.” His family will remember his joy for life, his quick wit and crooked grin. He leaves his nine grandchildren with a lifetime of memories of his love for sweet things and most of all family.

Farmer and sister-in-law Tina Farmer: brother-in-law Bill Dinkins: mother-in-law V. Jane (Craig) Etter: Grandchildren Danny, Emma, Charlotte (Jason) Farmer: Jaxon, Maddux, Isaac, Landry (Nathan) Farmer: Eleanor, Olivia (Lindsay) Farmer and many special nieces and nephews.

 He is preceded in death by his wife Cathy J. (Etter) Farmer: father Wallace W. Farmer: mother Sarah E. (Deck) Farmer: sister Teresa N. (Farmer) Kruse: sister Pamela S. (Farmer) Dinkens: grandparents Carl Washington Deck and Ferrol Faye (Guy) Deck, James J. Farmer and Lotis (Abercrombie) Farmer Dalton and step-grandfather James “Jim” F. Dalton: brother-in-law Stephen K. Kruse and brother-in-law Craig A. Etter, and many much-loved aunts and uncles.

Visitation will be Monday, August 10th from 6-8 PM and Tuesday August 11 th from 11am-2:30 pm at Harris Funeral Home, Petersburg, Indiana. Funeral services will also be held at Harris Funeral Home on Tuesday August 11 th at 2:30pm, with a small graveside service and burial to follow at Walnut Hills Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to either White River Chapel, Bowman, Indiana or the Indiana State Parks through a donation to the Indiana Natural Resources Foundation.
