Roger A. Eckert, 79, of Stendal passed away Thursday, October 8, 2026 at Deaconess Memorial in Jasper, Indiana. He was born June 25, 1947 to Theodore and Mary (Norric) Eckert in Huntingburg. He married Sharon (Carter) Eckert on April 4, 1968 and from there, they went on to have four children.

Roger was a Union Coal Miner who worked at Old Ben #2 for over 40 years. He was a member of the Eagles in Huntingburg, a Stendal volunteer firefighter, a member of the Jaycee in Holland, Indiana for several years. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish, a welder, mechanic, and loved to fix anything he could get his hands on. He loved his western television shows and Home Improvement.

He is survived by his wife; Sharon Eckert of 58 years; his daughters, Ladonna (Terry) Griffith, Gretchen (Randy) Arterberry, Dorinda (Brad) Payne; son, Jeremy Eckert; brother, Mike (Pat) Eckert; 13 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his stepbrother, Jim Roettger; stepsisters, Lola Philpot and Carol Astrike.

In accordance with Rogers wishes he will be cremated. Harris Funeral Home is entrusted with care.
