Rhoda Mae Owens, 91, of Vincennes passed away on May 19, in Vincennes. She was born October 15, 1926 in Knox County to Alpha and Gertrude Taylor. She was a member of Hamline Chapel United Methodist Church. She retired from South Knox School Corp. where she worked as a teachers aid. She was also a volunteer at the Blue Jeans Community Center and enjoyed denim crafting and genealogy. Her lifelong passion was helping children learn to read. Surviving are her children Roy (Chetta) Owens of Springtown, TX and Rita Miley of Vincennes; brother, Bert Taylor- Monroe City; sister, Beverly McCoy- Monroe City; grandchildren, Tammi (Calvin) Ramsey, Terri Richards, Trina Cullom, and Jennifer (Jason) Ashcraft; 14 great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Roy Owens whom she married in 1944; her son, Robert Franklin Owens; and sister, Ada Cannon; and her parents. Services will be held Wednesday, May 23, at 11 AM at Hamline Chapel Cemetery with viewing from 10-11 AM at the church located outside of Monroe City. Harris Funeral Home is entrusted with care.
