Michael L. Veale, 68, of Petersburg, Indiana, passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Saturday, December 14, 2024.
Mike was a very proud Disabled American Veteran who served in both the U.S. Marine Corps and the U.S. Army.
He worked in many different areas in the Marines throughout his 12 year enlistment, working as an air winger on the Harrier Jump Jets in VMA-231, having participated on a Mediterranean cruise visiting numerous countries like Spain, Italy, Egypt, Monte Carlo, and went on a safari in Africa. He also served as an instructor and recruiter during his Marine service. He was flag bearer for the Marine Corps in the presidential cavalcade during President Ronald Reagan's visit to Indianapolis in the 1980's
At the conclusion of his Marine service, Mike reenlisted and served 8 years in the U.S. Army, where he was a member of 1-37 Armor Division stationed in Vilseck, Germany, and served in the division that was one of the first into Iraq at the start of the Gulf War.
Mike leaves behind his loving wife of almost 50 years, Paula; daughters Leslie (Jason) Hamilton of Scottsdale, Arizona, and Laurie Veale of Vincennes, Indiana; granddaughter Madison (Braeden) Wise of Corpus Christi, Texas; grandsons Curtis and Alexandre Merkley of Loogootee, Indiana; and his mother, 3 sisters and brother. He was preceded in death by his father, beloved uncles and aunts, and his beloved grandmother Doris Veale.
He additionally leaves behind his Brothers-In-Arms who remain here and will join those Brothers already passed. And Mike leaves behind his three loves: "God, Country, and Family".
Funeral services with military honors will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at Immanuel Baptist Church in Petersburg, Indiana, with Pastor Bobby Cox officiating. Visitation will be from 3:00pm-8:00pm on Friday, also at the church, which is located at 295 W. Main Street in Petersburg, Indiana.
