Michael Raymond Craney, 76, of Petersburg, Indiana passed away peacefully Sunday, July 26, 2026 surrounded by his loving family. Mike was born June 28, 1950 in Washington, Indiana to the late Thomas and Bernadette (Colvin) Craney. He was the beloved husband of Rita Craney, with whom he shared 46 wonderful years of marriage.

Throughout his life, Mike enjoyed simple pleasures and quality time with those he loved whether he was coon hunting, playing cards, or sitting in the stands watching his grandchildren play sports. He was also a member of the Dogwood Coonhunters Club for many years. His family will especially miss his warmth, his presence, and his famous chicken and dumplings and chili.

A devoted family man, Mike is survived by his wife, Rita; his daughters, Whitney (Eric) Knight and Brittany (Kristy) Craney-Garrison; he was a proud grandfather to his two grandchildren, Wyatt and Eastyn Knight, who brought immense joy to his life;

He is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Dorothy (Bob) Grannon, Monica (Tony) Steiner, David (Tammy) Craney, Diana (Bob) Dages, Madonna Leinenbach, Betty Jane (Ralph) Craig, Joan (Tom) Cornelius, Mary (Rick) Schaefer, Hazel Leinenbach, Bill Craney, Greg (Kim) Craney, and Steve Craney; as well as several cherished nieces and nephews.

A visitation for Mike will be held on Friday, July 31, 2026 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. EST at Harris Funeral Home in Petersburg, Indiana. The service will begin at 3:00 p.m. EST at the funeral home with the burial to follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Winslow, Indiana. Harris Funeral Home is entrusted with care.
