MICHAEL LEE "SPEED" BURKHART

Michael Lee "Speed" Burkhart, from Hazleton, Ind., died November 6, 2018 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, Ind.

Throughout his life, many knew him as Mike, but most knew him by Speed, which was his father's nickname as well.

Speed spent his career as a heavy equipment operator, with the majority of his employment being at Southern Indiana Wood Preserving in Winslow, Ind.

Speed was born May 3, 1953, in Merced, Cal. To Harold L. "Speed" and Charlotte A. Burkhart.  He married Lisa A. Burkhart on July 1, 1998.

Speed is survived by a son, Joseph M. Burkhart of Hazleton, Ind., and a stepson Steve Duignan of Bridgeport, Ill.; two brothers, Donald L. Burkhart and Joseph A. Burkhart, both of Petersburg, Ind.; two sisters, Janet A. Williams of Darien, Ga., and Patricia J. Montgomery of Lawrenceville, Ill.

A memorial service will be held at White River Chapel United Methodist Church in Bowman, Ind., on Saturday, November 10, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. EST.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family.
