James E. Minnis, 81, of Petersburg, passed away January 8, 2026 in Petersburg. He was born November 11, 1944 to Delbert and Francis (Dilly) Minnis in Vincennes, IN. James graduated from Petersburg High School Class of 1962. He went on to work in the family business at Minnis Limestone in Petersburg. When someone called needing gravel James was known for his ability to evenly dump the gravel on the whole drive without needing to get out of the truck. James was a faithful member of the Pike Lodge #121 Free & Accepted Masons and the Pike County Shrine Club. He enjoyed playing tennis and mushroom hunting. He loved taking care of his cows on his farm, which were his pride and joy second only to his grandchildren.
James is survived by his daughter, Wendy (Mark) Minnis-Goldsmith; grandchildren, Grayson (Dejhanay) Goldsmith, Michaela Benson-Goldsmith, Ethan Huck, and Loren Huck; great grandchild, Emerson Goldsmith; son in law, Arby Huck; brothers, William Minnis and D.R. Minnis; a sister, Pam Minnis; and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Dona Minnis; his son, Todd Minnis; his daughter, Spicy Huck; his parents; and a sister, Tricia Lambert.
A visitation for James will be held from 4-8 PM EST on Monday, January 12, at Harris Funeral Home in Petersburg, IN with a Masonic Service held at 7 PM EST that evening. Harris Funeral Home is entrusted with care.
