Inez King, 88, of Petersburg, IN, passed away September 22, 2024 at Amber Manor Care Center in Petersburg. She was born June 7, 1936 to Herschel and Edith (Hopper) Russell in Winslow, IN. She graduated from Winslow High School and went on to work as a secretary at the local Farm Bureau Insurance Company for many years. Inez joined the Ayrshire Valley General Baptist Church in 1956 and was the longest living member of the church. She loved canning, gardening, and was a very devoted mother and wife. Inez was also a proud member of the Republican Party.
Inez is survived by her daughters, Judy Elber, Cindy (Scott) Poole, and Terri (Don) Merle; grandchildren, Mallory Wyant, Hannah Elber, Sarah (Ben) Kessler, Samuel Gibbs, Jennifer (John) Dumas, Eric Merle, and Tyler Merle; great grandchildren, Layne Kessler, Hunter Daughtry, Tyler Daughtry, Parker Daughtry, Oryn Merle, and Evryn Merle; several nieces and nephews; and Frank and Beth Coleman, who she thought of as her own children.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, James King; her parents; grandson, Caleb Elber; brothers, Herschel Russell Jr. and Earl Russell; and sisters, Delores Blount, Juanita Schreiber, and Helen Morton.
Services for Inez will take place at 2 PM EST on Friday, September 27, at Harris Funeral Home in Petersburg, IN with visitation from 12 PM EST until service time at the funeral home. Pastor Frank Coleman will be officiating and burial will follow at Cup Creek Cemetery in Pikeville, IN. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Ayrshire Valley General Baptist Church at 1947 E. Co. Rd. 375 S. Winslow, IN 47598. Harris Funeral Home is entrusted with care.
