Elzena J. Strain, 85, of Petersburg, passed away August 14, 2025 in Petersburg. She was born February 5, 1940 to Homer M. and Nora (Frentess) Leighty in Otwell, IN. She graduated from Otwell High School and worked as a rural mail carrier in Fort Branch, IN, eventually retiring from the United States Postal Service. Elzena loved to play card games, from Bridge to Uno. She was a faithful member of the Nazarene Church, but played the piano for various churches over the years, despite her always saying she, "wasn't very good".

Elzena is survived by her sons, Jeffrey (Rose) Blaize and Jason Blaize; grandchildren, Joshua Blaize, Caleb Blaize, Nora Johnston, Lauren Hendrix, RJ Conaway, and Preston Blaize; grandchildren, Everleigh Hendrix and Ryker Hendrix; brother, David Leighty; step son, Tim Strain; step daughter, Debbie Knight; and several step grandchildren.

Elzena was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Strain; her parents; a daughter, Janet Johnston; brothers, Homer "Doin" Leighty, John Leighty, and George Leighty; and sisters, Mary Jane Ingersol and Barbara Joan Swain.

Services for Elzena will take place at 2 PM EST on Monday, August 18, at Harris Funeral Home in Petersburg, IN with visitation from 11 AM EST until service time. Pastor Brad Swain will be officiating and burial will follow at Walnut Hills Cemetery in Petersburg, IN. Harris Funeral Home is entrusted with care.
