Donald “Woody” Wood, 86, of Petersburg passed away in Evansville, Indiana on April 8, 2026. Woody was born in Winslow Indiana to Eugene and Eunice (Bass) Wood, June 11, 1939.

Woody completed his grade and high school education in the Winslow Schools then went on to attend Oakland City College for three years. After serving in the Marine Reserve for a few years, he then joined the Marine Corps and served two years with the Department of Atomic Security. He was transferred to the State Department and after two months of schooling in Washington D.C., he served two years tour of duty as a Marine Security Guard at the American Embassy in Santo Domingo. He then married his late wife, Gladys (Pou) Wood after this tour. He was also a Coal Handling Foreman for IP&L from 1971 to 2001.

Woody is survived by his sons, Marcial (Beth) Wood of Santa Claus, IN and Tony (David) Wood of Punta Gorda, FL; his brother, Alan (Sandi) Wood; sister,  Sue (Bob) Brewster; sister-in-law, Cindy Wood; grandchildren, Brittney (Nathan) Harrison of Evansville, Logan Wood of Evansville, Jazzlynn Wood of Birdseye, IN; great-grandchildren, Emma, Caroline, Crew, and Kashton; and best friends, Charlie the Yorkie and Larry Frederick.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Danny Wood.

A visitation for Woody will take place at 2:00 – 6:00 PM EST on Monday, April 13, at Harris Funeral Home in Petersburg, IN. In accordance with Woody’s wishes there will be no funeral and he will be cremated. Harris Funeral Home is entrusted with care.
