Carla Kay (Foster) Ficklin, 76 of Evansville, IN passed away on December 19th, 2025 at Heart To Heart Hospice in Evansville, IN surrounded by her family. She was born on January 6th, 1949 to Carl and JoAnne (Klipsch) Foster in Washington, IN.

Carla grew up attending Main Street Presbyterian Church in Petersburg, IN, where she was especially remembered for her beautiful voice. As a young woman, she sang in the youth choir, where her talent and love of music left a lasting impression on those who heard her. She passed her passion for music on to generations of her family that followed. In her early years, she was a member of Job’s Daughters. Carla graduated from Petersburg High School in 1967. While attending Petersburg High School, she played the flute, was a majorette in the band, and was an active member of several clubs and organizations. After high school, she went on to Patricia Stevenson Modeling and Finishing School in Indianapolis, IN. Carla would later go on to achieve her dream of attaining her college degree by earning a bachelor’s degree in psychology accompanied by a minor in business from the University of Southern Indiana. She achieved this while working, being a single mother and raising her two children. This was one of her proudest accomplishments. Carla spent several years working at Lazarus, and later Macy’s, from where she would retire in 2006. During her time there, she developed many important and long-term friendships. Her career paired perfectly with her affinity for fashion and style. In addition to these accomplishments, Carla served as the President of Newburgh Civitan from 1990-1991. She also enjoyed playing canasta and euchre with several of her close friends for decades. Carla married Ronald Ficklin on June 29th, 1968 in Petersburg, IN. Through their union, her children Jeff and Stacey were born.

Carla was a devoted sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who cherished her time spent with her friends and family. Carla is survived by her children, Jeff (Christy) Ficklin and Stacey (Craig) Johnson; her grandchildren, Darian Cartwright, Brock (Amanda) Johnson, Shelby and Casey Johnson, and Ty, Brooke, Lauren, and Megan Ficklin; and her great- Grandson, Kayden Cartwright. Carla is also survived by her siblings, Sharon Foster, Jim and Jean (Readle) Foster, Kevin and Rachel (Martinez) Foster, Dianna (Jim) Wolfe, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Carla also had several long-term friendships that were very dear to her, most notably her 69-year friendship with Karen (Davis) Hudson.

Carla was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and JoAnne Foster, and sister Suzanne (Foster) Hartman.

Visitation and funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 27th, 2025 from 10:00am to 1:00pm EST at O.D. Harris Funeral Home in Petersburg, IN. Funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m. EST by Pastor Gary Arnold. Burial will be at Walnut Hills Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to gather to honor and remember Carla’s life. Carla will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
