Betty Evelena (Ash) Hargus, 90, went to be with the Lord on January 13, 2022. She was surrounded by her family. She was born in Barber County, Kansas on December 7, 1931 to Arthur Earl and Bertha Ash. She attended Medicine Lodge High School and The Church of Christ. While working in Larned, KS she met and married Samuel Ralph Hargus on April 11, 1950 and he preceded her in death on September 23, 1986. The family moved to Petersburg, IN in 1970. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Petersburg and later attended the Bethel General Baptist Church. She was a member of Winslow OES and a past member of the Cherrio Homemakers Club. She had worked at Pike Central. Betty liked to crochet, dance, work in her garden, and plant flowers. She enjoyed baking and cooking for her family. She also enjoyed traveling and playing card games with her lady friends.

Betty was preceded in death by her infant sons, Ralph Eugene and Jimmie Ray. Her parents, sister, Shirley Nickell, and brother, Bobby Ash.

Betty is survived by her daughters, Sonya (Barry) Parks and Joy McEwen; son, Jerry (Nan) Hargus; grandchildren, Amber (Adam) Gee; Joe (Molly) Willis and their children, Anna Joy and Jack; Jamie (Adam) Seitz and their sons Calvin and Samuel; Samuel R. (Savannah) Hargus II, Jonathan (Jennifer) Hargus and son Noah; and Nolan (Hannah) Hargus and their children Vaughn, Adeline and Shepherd; and her brother, Raymond (Glynis) Ash of Kansas.

Services for Betty will take place at 12 PM EST on Tuesday, January 18, at Harris Funeral Home in Petersburg, IN with visitation from 10 AM until service time. Brother Robert Deel will be officiating and burial will follow at Walnut Hills Cemetery in Petersburg, IN. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in honor of Betty to Heart to Heart Hospice and may be mailed to 415 E. 6th St. Jasper, IN 47546. The family would like to give a special thanks to Heart to Heart Hospice for their care and compassion they showed to Betty and her family. Harris Funeral Home is entrusted with care.
