Roger Kent Garland

Roger Kent Garland, 69, passed away November 10, 2018 in Evansville, IN. He was born February 11, 1949 in Winslow, IN to James and Mildred Garland. Roger worked for 30 years for Old Ben Mine as a heavy equipment operator and worked for IP&L as well. He was a member of the Algiers United Methodist Church, United Mine Workers Association, and the IBEW.

Roger is survived by his wife of 51 years, Nelda Garland of Otwell; son, Jason (Gina) Garland of Valparaiso, IN; daughter, Carlene (Brad) Oliver of Evansville; grandchildren, Sydney, Sam, and Sophie Oliver; brother, Tim Garland of Marion, IL; and sisters, Doris Blackburn of Fort Branch, Margo Townley of Petersburg, and Janet Vaugh of Pikeville.

He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers, James Garland, Paul Dean Garland, and Lowell Garland.

Services will be held on Wednesday, November 14, at 1:30 PM EST at the Algiers United Methodist Church in Algiers, IN. Visitation will be held from 4-8 PM EST on Tuesday, Nov. 13, at the church. Visitation will also be available before the service on Wednesday. Burial will follow at McClure Cemetery and Pastor Mike Atkins will be officiating. Harris Funeral Home is entrusted with care.
