Barbara Ann Benjamin, 88, of Campbelltown, passed away on Thursday, December 6, 2018 at Amber Manor in Petersburg.
Barbara was born July 16, 1930 in Pike County, Indiana to John Lester and Lucille Easter (Soderling) Wood.
Barbara married John William Benjamin on November 26, 1949.
Despite the demands associated with being a wife and mother of four, she earned a registered nurse degree from Vincennes University in 1972. She worked at area physicians’ offices, clinics, and at Oakland City Hospital. After retiring, she volunteered for several years with Pike County Hospice.
Barbara enjoyed her flower gardens, visiting with family and friends, her birds, caring for her pets and numerous neighborhood animals, and reading. Barbara was happiest when spending time with family, especially her beloved “great-grands.” She was a dedicated, life-long member of the Winslow General Baptist church and was one of the most thoughtful and caring members of her community.
Barbara is survived by two children: Andrea (Steve) Messmer of Jasper and Steve (Jane) Benjamin of Bloomington; five grandchildren: Natalie (Jason) Mills of Winslow, Abigail (Chris) Vinnedge of Stendal, Beau (Anh) Benjamin of Carmel (Indiana), Stephanie (Brian) Hatton of London (England), and Jonathon Benjamin of Croton-on-Hudson (New York); and seven great-grandchildren: Jaylon and Brailey Mills, Tessa and Tuff Vinnedge, Braeden and Harper Benjamin, and Benjamin Hatton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John; sons Tim and Bill (Benjie); sisters Mary Schwinghammer and Elaine Daubenspeck; a brother, Richard; and a grandson, Gary.
Visitation will be at the Winslow General Baptist Church from 9-11 A. M. Monday December 10, 2018 with service to follow. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Winslow General Baptist Church. Barbara’s family would like to thank the many kind and professional employees at Jasper Memorial Hospital, Amber Manor, and the Pike County libraries who cared for her.
