James Burley Teague, 79, of rural Petersburg, passed away February 16, 2024, in Newburgh, IN after a brief illness. He was born at home in Otwell, IN on July 23, 1944. He had operated James B. Teague & Son Trucking for over 35 years before retiring in 2004.
James is survived by his son William Thomas (Michele) of rural Petersburg, Rachel Elaine Doades (Tyler) of rural Lawrence County IN, grandchildren Quinlan Donal Teague, Eibhlin MacNeil Teague, Ethan Scott Doades, and Miley Abigail Doades, a sister Shirley Ann Phillips of Nashville, TN, and several nieces and nephews on both the Teague and Brenton sides of his family.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 30 years Mary Ellen (Brenton) Teague, an infant son, parents Noble Eugene and Gladys (Roberts) Teague, brother Lowell Teague, sister Mercenya Walters, niece Vicki Bass, and nephew Dane Phillips, as well as his grandparents Willie and Annie (Anderson) Teague.
A graveside service for James will take place at 3:00 PM EST on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at Willis Cemetery with Pastor Jerry “Tuffy” Blackwell officiating. Harris Funeral Home is entrusted with care. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Mary Ellen Teague Fund for Petersburg Elementary School through the Pike County Community Foundation.
